God is my Rock

This is from David's Psalm 8:2

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold. (Psalm 8:2 NIV)

What does God is my Rock mean?

This ancient expression is indicating taking refuge in God. Taking shelter in God. Seeing God as our only protection.

We see this understanding expressed throughout the scriptures. Here are some Biblical verses that also express the meaning of this phrase:

But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, because of your father's God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the skies above, blessings of the deep springs below, blessings of the breast and womb. (Genesis 45:24)
